Filtering... FREAKING FINALLY

We finally implimented filtering, sorting and searching. Sorry it took so long!

The best part of my day is reading all the kind emails from our fans. You guys are the best and we don’t tell you enough how much we appreciate you. I also love hearing your suggestions because I want to make Font Squirrel even better. Wouldn’t it be cool to tag fonts, or save your generator and filter settings?

Last month, we released a minor update that included some basic font filtering. Your feedback and appreciation was great and inspired me to improve it significantly. My favorite improvements:

1. You can select only families with Regular, Bold and Italics.
2. You can sort any selection by date added or popularity.
3. You can select multiple tags.

I plan to improve it further soon. Language filtering is probably next… Let me know what you think in the comments, on Twitter or Facebook, or email me at hello at fontsquirrel.com.

This is kind of useless without filter for supported languages / subsettings.

Hopefully I can start tinkering with that next week. It won't be easy but this is a huge step in that direction. Did you notice that each font has a list of languages now. Hopefully that will be helpful for the time being.

Hi Enumag,

Did you happen to notice I added languages? =)

Enumag- why can't you be positive about improvements to a tool you don't have to pay to use?

Dan- I don't get to comment often on your site, but as someone who semi-regularly tries to convert fonts using your tool, thanks for taking the time to make whatever improvements you have time for. Much appreciated.

One question: sometimes I have web design clients who have purchased a font and it only gets delivered in TTF (or other) and then your tool has it blacklisted, if a license *has* been purchased, any tips or sites we can turn to for conversion? Thanks!

Hi Martin,

Your clients should produce a web font license. And if they have one they should be getting their web fonts from the Licensor. You can read more on this here:

http://www.fontsquirrel.com/forum/discussion/93/generator-blacklisted-fonts#Item_15

There are lots of reasons that a Foundry may want to have their fonts blacklists. Quality control is the biggest one. The licensee should be respecting their wishes. The generator is an amazing tool that hints and subsets fonts... but not all foundries trust it and want to do it all by hand. That is their purogative.

That is why we love Fontspring.com as well. Their licensing terms are easy to swallow and allow for usages that most of us intuitively expect, such as using the web font generator or temporarily giving the fonts to contractors who are working for you on a project. And Fontspring never sneak in tracking scripts or yearly terms without you noticing. If you have a font that doesn't allow web embedding, contact us at Fontspring and we can find one close with better licensing terms.

Dan,

Thanks so much - I know one of our projects falls into this category, so when I'm next working on it I will probably be in touch. I think it's frustrating if a client already has a font then they don't have it in a format that works on all browsers (most of the time they don't know that's the case either).

I didn't realise you were hooked in with fontspring (call me unobservant!) so that's really helpful to know. Thanks!

@Dan: It's great! Thank you very much. :-)

@Martin Oxby: Because if something is useless it doesn't really matter if it is free or not. It's just useless.
